As the heart of the Greater Golden Horseshoe, Ontario’s Greenbelt is the world’s largest and is the most biologically rich areas in all of Canada. The ~2 million acres of land that makes up the Greenbelt contains protected farmland, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and forests. The ~2 million acres of land that makes up the Greenbelt contains protected farmland, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and forests. This massive chunk of land safeguards and provides us with the resources for the air we breathe, clean water, food, and amazing outdoor recreation experiences.

With the impacts of the climate crisis on the rise, protected areas rich with biodiversity (such as the Greenbelt) are becoming more and more important and act as some of our greatest allies in the fight against climate change.

Back in 2018, the Ford government promised Ontarians that the Greenbelt will stay untouched and will be protected from future development. Unfortunately, our government recently broke that “promise” and sold parcels of Greenbelt land to developer friends for housing all while ignoring environmental experts and public concern.

The Auditor General’s report (here) has been made clear. What our government is doing is WRONG!

We need your help!

 As Ontarians we have the right to speak up for what we think is right. Help us keep the Greenbelt lands green by sending a letter today to Honourable Paul Calandra, Ontario’s new Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and tell him to do the right thing and return the stolen parcels of land back to the Greenbelt.
