For over 50 years, Ontarians have fought to protect the land, water, and wildlife that make this province home. From the creation of 378 provincial parks and reserves to hard-won legislation like the Endangered Species Act and the Environmental Assessment Act, our environmental heritage has been built piece by piece, through public consultation, science-based planning, and a deep respect for future generations.

Now, that legacy is under attack. The Ford government’s recent omnibus Bill 5 has dismantled the Endangered Species Act, gutted environmental assessments, and opened the door to “special economic zones” where environmental protections can be suspended at will. Now they’ve proposed severing and selling off a portion of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park — one of Ontario’s most cherished and most visited public spaces — for private development.

This is not just about one park. If Wasaga can be sold, what’s next? Bon Echo, Sandbanks, Frontenac? Every inch of Ontario’s protected landscape is now on the chopping block. The public trust is being violated and our shared natural heritage is being auctioned for short-term private gain.

This is our red line. We’re calling on all Ontarians to speak out and take a stand against the destruction of the natural legacy that belongs to us all — and to future generations.

It’s time to remind our government:

Public parks are not for sale. Our environment is not expendable. Our heritage is not negotiable.

Join us in demanding an immediate halt to the sale of conservation lands and the repeal of anti-environmental provisions in Bill 5. This is the moment to rise.
